COMMENTS FROM BRIAN
& DEBBIE LAMONT
We are DIY'ers, ...the challenge of designing and working
together on a new project is like therapy for us. With every project we try to create
something we will enjoy, use, and have fun building. Not to mention it's a
good excuse for Brian to buy another new tool. Other than remodeling our
home, constructing our home theater was one of the most fun projects we have
ever accomplished together. The construction of the home theater was by
far the most amount of work we had ever placed in one room, but, well worth all the effort.
Starting this new project was a little scary to say the least. We were taking a completely finished room and tearing it apart.... to do what, watch
moves! When we told friends what we were doing, they looked at us kind of
funny. But, when they see the finished home theater... they look at us
with an expression that tells us we did a great job.
If you enjoy movies, and desire a place to get away (right within your own home), then your home should have a home theater, especially a "theme"
home theater. A theme home theater should reflect your personal fantasy. We
love Mexico and its culture, and wanted our theater to have the feel of an outdoor courtyard in Mexico or the Southwest. The building of a theme home
theater requires a fine balance of blending many components, yet keeping the
desired illusion in tack.
The best video and outstanding sound can add to the illusion of a home theater, yet, at the same time, less than desirable room acoustics or poor
lighting can take away from it. If these components do not blend with the
aesthetics of the home theater the illusion of the home theater is lost.
If you decide to construct a home theater, whether you want to design and construct the project yourself as we did, or enlist the help of
professionals, take the time to learn about home theaters. Read magazines,
surf the internet, visit home theater show rooms, or check out the latest
and greatest products at a home theatre trade show. You'll be glad you did
your homework when you are sitting back enjoying "Gladiator" in 7.1
surround sound in your fantasy home theater.
Good luck and thanks for taking an interest in our home theater,
