With the release of a new miniature Star Destroyer model, I knew that I had the opportunity to make something that will both fit on an office desk in a non intrusive way, yet had an immediate wow-factor when people saw it.
I used the smallest filament available (.25mm Single Strand Fiber Optic Filament) and had to order .30mm drill bits for placement.
The engines and fibers were lit up using four 1.8mm cool white LED’s all connected to an external 3V battery supply and switch.
The biggest issue encountered with such a small model was preventing the internal LED’s from shining through the model. Wrapping the LED’s in a tube of cardboard solved that issue. Overall the build took about two weeks between planning, painting, and construction.
The final model fits in the palm of your hand!
