This model started with the purchase of the Star Trek TNG Enterprise D Electronic Ship from Diamond Select. While this kit included some essential lights it did not include fiber optics or any LED’s, it also did not have any lights for the windows.
First, I disassembled it and removed all the electronics. Then I added layers of black and white paint help avoid light leaking from the new LED setup.
I perforated the windows using a 0.3 mm drill and added six fiber optic cables (I used the 64 Strand Fiber Optic cable for each one), creating approximately 380 “windows”.
I also used 3mm and 5mm fibers, like the row of four yellow lights that you can see at the front (this is not part of the original model, it’s just me having fun with different fiber sizes that I got from the fiber optic store’s sample pack).
I added green, red, yellow, and blue LED’s, some of them linked to circuits made with 555 timers to simulate various blinking and fade-in / fade-out effects.
Everything is powered by 3 AA batteries or a USB connector.
Great Work ~ Thank you Sebastian!
