Built by Tim Nolan (aka: Rat Daddy)
Here are some photos and a description of my use of your products on the Star Wars Republic Destroyer. This build is completely illuminated with hundreds of fiber optics strands in each window port. It also has an illuminated hangar bay, rocket engines which “flicker”, and laser cannons which fire in random patterns. This Venator Class Destroyer has several hundred feet of line in it!
This Star Destroyer represents months of tedious work drilling micro-sized holes for use with fiber optics. I used .25, .50, and .75 millimeter fibers throughout the build. Working features include random firing laser cannons, LED illuminated running lights, cargo bay, and engine lighting with a flickering pattern. Randy Neubert at VoodooFx designed the prototype boards for the cannons and engines, which are now a production item.
I use aluminum tubing for my LED cans for the fibers, and seal them with black silicone adhesive. I use the same black silicone to adhere all of my fibers. This provides not only a stable and flexible adhesion, but blocks out any possible light leakage as well.
Videos of this build and some of his other adventures may be viewed at Tim’s website: www.ratdaddystudios.com ~ A note of caution: You might want to block out an hour or so before you click on the link to his site – His body of work is amazing!
Tim ~ Thanks for sharing! Paul
