A starry night out on the dock
The boat gently ‘floats’ at the slip as it sits below a starry, cloudless night sky.
Believe it or not, this scene exists in the lower level of a 7,000 square foot private residence. “The Dock” is actually a gathering area, a lobby of sorts, which leads to a much larger home theater room. The boat is a facade, built on a series of hinges and pistons that simulate a ‘floating’ motion when you walk on it.
In addition to the visual illusion, your ears hear the water below the boat gently slapping up against the dock while the bullfrogs and night crickets join in off in the distance. All compliments of the multi-channel sound system with multiple speakers strategically hidden through out the room.
Above the boat, the illusion features hundreds, and hundreds of stars. The stars seem to transcend to the horizon, beyond the physical walls that you keep telling yourself exist … or do they? 😉
The Stars: Each star is created by threading an individual .25mm strand of filament thru a ceiling panel that has been painted flat black. The filament we used in this extremely realistic illusion is the thinnest filament that we carry: the 64 strand cable with the .25mm filament
In the photos below we ‘turn on the work lights’ and go ‘offstage’ to help you see how the illusion is created. You’ll see that we used well positioned mirrors in the ceiling to create the illusion of multiple stars and depth. BTW: Photos below will open a larger image in a new page.
