Is the fiber optic material glass or plastic?
Fiber optic filaments are manufactured in both glass and plastic forms. The filaments we feature and sell are plastic (polymethyl methacrylate fluorinated polymer, to be specific).
The plastic filaments have some advantages over the glass alternatives, namely: the fibers are easier to work with in a hobby or star ceiling application as they are more forgiving when they are bent.
You’ll learn what John is doing in this photo a bit later in the FAQs. But we can assure you that what he’s doing would NEVER work with glass fiber optic filaments!
